Players stop play by pulling a flag instead of tackling, creating a safe, fun, and fast-paced experience that mirrors the Olympic-style version of rugby while remaining accessible for all experience and ability levels.
We offer the following divisions:
Players are grouped by grade to ensure balanced competition and appropriate skill development.
No. Flag rugby is 100% non-contact. There is no tackling, rucking, or scrumming. The focus is on running, passing, teamwork, and game awareness.
Possibly. Players may be evaluated on the first day of the program. If a child demonstrates the ability, maturity, and safety awareness to play up, we can move them into the higher division.
Yes, you may request that your child be placed on the same team as friends. This is a recreational program, with all coaches provided by CenCal Rugby Club, and team assignments are made to promote balanced play and a positive experience for all participants.
All teams are coached by certified and trained coaches provided by CenCal Rugby Club, ensuring a safe, positive, and development-focused experience for all players.
No experience is required. Flag rugby is beginner-friendly and ideal for first-time players as well as athletes transitioning from other sports.

All flags and rugby equipment are provided. Each participant also receives a flag rugby shirt as part of the program.
The season runs from November 14th to December 19th. The program is held on Saturdays, with no sessions during the week of Thanksgiving.
Yes. Flag rugby is one of the safest ways to introduce rugby concepts. The non-contact format significantly reduces injury risk while keeping the game fun and competitive.
All players receive meaningful playing time. The emphasis is on participation, development, and enjoyment rather than wins and losses.
That’s perfectly fine. Flag rugby is an excellent entry-level sport and welcomes athletes of all backgrounds and experience levels.
